Ruler Work Club: Clamshells and Circles

So you have a ruler foot for your sewing machine and you have the Westalee Clamshell and 2” simple circle template but don’t know how to use them or are looking for design ideas.  This Ruler Club meet-up will help you explore different designs that you can create using these two rulers.  You can play around with practice sandwiches if you like or work on a “REAL” project.  The real project will placemats that finish at 12” x 18”.

Supplies

Fabric Requirements

4 fabric sandwiches for the placemats each consisting of the following: Backing Fabric 16” x 20” , Batting 16” x 20”, Top Fabric 12 1/2” x 18 1/2”

Options:  Piece 24 squares 3 1/2” x 3 1/2” into a grid 4 tall by 6 wide to form a rectangle 12 1/2” x 18 1/2”  OR take one fabric that measure 6 1/2” x 12 1/2” and another fabric that measures 12          1/2’’ x 12 1/2’ and piece together to form a rectangle 12 1/2” x 18 1/2”  (use 1/4” seam allowance) – Check  with Patricias’ if you need more detailed piecing instructions.

 

Practice Sandwich: about 16” x 16” (backing/batting/top)

Marking tools  that you can use on your fabric top (these marks should be able to be removed)

Rotary Cutting Ruler ( 6” x 24’)

Sewing machine with proper ruler foot and extension table

Westalee Clamshell template and 2” simple circle template from the Sampler Set #1

90/14 topstitch needle

Various threads that will blend in or compliment the fabrics you have chosen.  If you are using threads other than  50 or 40 weight make sure you bring needles that appropriate size.

Print out the Class Registration Form,  complete it. Either drop it off or mail it.  Please remember, checks must be made payable directly to the instructors.  (Note:  You are not completely registered for the class until payment to the instructor has been received.)

Please… Sign up for classes at least 2 weeks in advance.

We need time to prepare kits & samples so you will be able to enjoy your class. If there is insufficient interest in a class, you will be notified of cancellation one week prior to the class. So don’t wait till the last minute to sign up for the classes you are interested in!
